Asst. Prof. Aurora S. Llige presented her dissertation in a collaborative virtual workshop titled Nextgen Koreanist Workshop. This event was organized by the UP Korea Research Center and the Yonsei University Mirae Campus.

The Department of Home Economics Education is thrilled to announce that Asst. Prof. Aurora S. Llige has been appointed as a Faculty Affiliate at the TriCollege Ph.D. Philippine Studies Program. Effective from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2027, this new role highlights Asst. Prof. Llige's growing academic contributions and the recognition of her expertise in her interdisciplinary field.

The Department of Home Economics proudly congratulates Asst. Prof. Ma. Afrecita Nieva for successfully spearheading a celebration of International Women’s Month with the Female Law Enforcement Officers of the Philippine National Police of Makati. From March 26 to March 27, her celebration, Asst. Prof. Nieva arranged bazaars, pop-up shops, free haircut and make-up sessions, healing art sessions, and educational discussions that left a remarkable and empowering impact on a sector of women engaging in a male-dominated field.

The Department of Home Economics Education proudly congratulates Asst. Prof. Aurora S. Llige for receiving the Ph.D. Incentive Award. This significant recognition grants Asst. Prof. Llige with the resources to develop a rich and comprehensive research portfolio focused on the area of Migration and Development, particularly the Filipino Diaspora Engagement.

The Home Economics Education Department proudly congratulates its esteemed faculty, Assoc. Prof. Joanne R. Bantang, for their appointment by the Chancellor to be the newest Chairperson of the University Council Committee on University Instruction (UC CUI).

The Department of Home Economics proudly celebrated World Home Economics Day 2025 with the theme, Tackling Overconsumption. The day was commemorated through a special online event organized by the Asian Regional Association for Home Economics (ARAHE).

The Faculty of the Department of Home Economics Education leads in the Filipiniana-inspired Dress Code in their latest department photoshoot, embodying cultural appreciation and a strong school spirit!

Last December 14, Asst. Prof. Aurora S. Llige served as a resource speaker for a writing boot camp of the TriCollege PhD Philippine Studies entitled “The Reality of Writing and Overcoming Blocks” at the GT Toyota Hall of Wisdom.

The Home Economics Education Department is proud to announce that members of their esteemed faculty have been appointed to the University of the Philippines Diliman Research Ethics Board (UPD REB) Review Panel, effective from January 1 to December 31, 2025.

Last December 20, 2024, DHEEd’s Asst. Prof. Ma. Afrecita D. Nieva, MBA was a guest speaker for DZUP Balita on the topic of Food Preparations for the Upcoming Christmas Season, sharing her essential tips on food safety, managing food waste, and balancing healthier options without losing the holiday spirit.

Last August 1-2, 2024, the San Lazaro Hospital hosted a research workshop titled “A Quickstart Guide to Doing Research.” DHEEd’s Assoc. Prof. Joanne R. Bantang served as a program developer and resource person for this workshop.

Last August 2024, Asst. Prof. Aurora S. Llige earned her Ph.D. in International Studies Major in Development Cooperation from Ewha Womans University, South Korea. She was also awarded the Best Thesis Award for her dissertation entitled “Filipino Diaspora Engagement: Analyzing the Approach of the Government in Migration and Development.”

At the 2024 ISQOLS Annual Conference held last June 25-28 at Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, the department’s very own Assoc. Prof. Consuelo Chua and BSHE Batch 2022 alumnus Carlo Kristopher Trinidad brought home the 1st Place Award for the Best Poster Presentation for their research entitled “Financial Wellbeing of Filipino Families During the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

Last July 11-13, 2024, faculty members from the Department of Home Economics Education (DHEEd) and other departments of the College of Home Economics (CHE) participated in the 26th PATHESCU Inc. Annual National Conference and Training in Cagayan State University, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. At the conference, DHEEd faculty members were also recognized for their outstanding performance in the field.

Last June 10, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Consuelo T. Chua was invited to the Kapihan sa SWS at the Social Weather Station Knowledge Center.  Here, Assoc. Prof. Chua presented, on behalf of the research team with DHEEd faculty Assoc. Prof. Bantang, Asst. Prof. Llige, and Asst. Prof. Gabriel, their study, “Preliminary Development of a Filipino Family Wellbeing Survey.”

Last March 3, 2024, Asst. Prof. Ma. Afrecita Nieva of the Department of Home Economics Education was invited to facilitate a talk on Basic Financial Literacy for the women of BANYUHAY at the plaza of Pook CP Garcia, UP Diliman Campus. 

On the 25th of September, the College of Home Economics community unveiled its way in such a grand scheme through the commemoration of its 62nd Founding Anniversary. With the theme, "Laro at Lasang Pinoy," CHE transformed into a Pinoy Games Festival for one whole day. Driven by Goal 3 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals - Good Health and Well-being, the event sought to promote culture, physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and enjoyment.
