Last August 1-2, 2024, the San Lazaro Hospital hosted a research workshop titled “A Quickstart Guide to Doing Research.” DHEEd’s Assoc. Prof. Joanne R. Bantang served as a program developer and resource person for this workshop. Here, she introduced research and the research process to non-medical or administrative staff as well as some nurses and medical technologists from the hospital.
Many of the participants expressed their wish to improve their services or programs through research-based evidence or to prepare them for their graduate studies. As such, the research seminar was designed for them to better understand the research process and appreciate the important role of research. On the first day, Assoc. Prof. Bantang re-introduced research to the participants by explaining the nature of human inquiry and setting the tone for a responsible conduct of research. Then, in the afternoon and the following day, Assoc. Prof. Bantang discussed the different elements of the research process. Aside from the usual lecture, the participants were also able to learn from exercises, group activities, and sharing/reporting.
In the end, the participants expressed that they enjoyed different parts of the workshop, and shared that they will use what they learned for future and ongoing research activities. Meanwhile, for Assoc. Prof. Bantang, the Workshop was a great opportunity for her to share about research with non-medical and medical personnel, and expand her network for future collaboration.
