The Department of Home Economics Education is proud to share the successful General Assembly of the College of Home Economics held in May 2026, marking the affirmation of Professor Joanne R. Bantang, PhD, LPT, as the new Dean of the College of Home Economics. The gathering was held in the 4th Floor Exhibit Hall of the Museum Building and brought together by the CHE community to honor this important milestone.
Following this was the turnover address by the former Dean, Prof. Shirley V. Guevarra. After which, Assoc. Prof. Consuela T. Chua introduced Dean Joanne R. Bantang to the audience, welcoming her as the college’s 15th Dean.
Dean Bantang expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her as the new Dean of the College of Home Economics. Her vision for the next three years centered on three interconnected priorities: Tao, Bahay, at Programa. For Tao, she emphasized supporting faculty, staff, and students through revisiting manuals, streamlining redundant layers and processes, digitization, and well-being programs. She also highlighted the need to advocate for hazard pay, civil service eligibility, and fostering a culture of empathy, respect, ethical behavior, and social responsibility. Regarding Bahay, she stressed the importance of improving physical facilities to be safe, functional, and sustainable. Additionally, efforts will be made to revitalize our engagement with students, alumni, and partner institutions by actively involving them in supporting projects and initiatives, whether through linkages, idea generation, or providing funding. For Programa, her focus is on strengthening quality assurance systems, outcomes-based education, curriculum relevance, and accreditation initiatives. She is also dedicated to developing interdisciplinary courses, reviving the college journal, and promoting research and publications. She acknowledges potential challenges like resource limitations but remains hopeful, drawing strength from the college’s people and values. She encourages everyone to actively participate in shaping the college’s future, fostering a culture that is kind, genuine, service-oriented, and team-focused.
The event also featured the introduction of the College Executive Board and a message from Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II. The program also featured an intermission number performed by Mr. Jan Carlo C. Aningat, bringing joy and entertainment to everyone present.
The event marked the beginning of a new chapter for the College of Home Economics, with Dean Bantang’s leadership expected to bring continued growth and success. With strong leadership and a caring community, the college is ready to overcome future challenges and reach new heights. We look forward to a future filled with innovation, collaboration, and achievement under her guidance.
