The Department of Home Economics Education (DHEEd) at the University of the Philippines Diliman recently showcased its innovative efforts in quality assurance and institutional improvement during the inaugural QAhusayan Fair 2026, held from September 7 to 11. This event is part of UP Diliman’s Quality Assurance (QA) Month celebration. Themed "Empowering Excellence through a Culture of Quality," the fair aimed to highlight how a shared commitment to quality enhances teaching and learning, research, governance, and service delivery across the university.
DHEEd’s entry featured "Project HOME: A Harmonized Online Management Ecosystem for Transparency, Accessibility, and Engagement," which was selected as one of the best poster presentations at the fair. The project was presented by Assoc. Prof. Aurora S. Llige, Ph.D., Alyssa Bianca V. Avila (project staff who also designed the poster), Guinevere R. Alvior (administrative staff), and Danielle Ciara Maxine M. Arriola (an undergraduate student). This initiative addresses key gaps identified in program information visibility, student support services, and digital infrastructure—aligning with AUN-QA Criteria 2, 6, and 7.
Reflecting on the event, the presenters shared their personal insights on representing the department and participating in the QAhusayan Fair:
Miss Guinie shared, "It was a fun and enlightening experience. I presented our poster from the perspective of an administrative staff. I felt it was a refreshing take on how our department, the DHEEd, values all its stakeholders.”
Miss Alyssa, presenting the initiative carried special personal meaning: "It is deeply fulfilling to serve as a student body representative, especially as a recent graduate who directly experienced the growth of this project and to share that journey. I am optimistic that this project will increase awareness and appreciation of the BSHE program among students, staff, and key stakeholders.”
Miss Danielle echoed this sentiment, highlighting how the department's digital presence directly impacted her own academic path: "Honestly, super kinabahan ako when I presented the poster, but I think it really helped that I had personal/firsthand experience with some of the manifestations of the solutions presented by the department. Before I shifted, I was part of the crowd that had zero idea about HE as a discipline and course, na-discover ko lang sya during the time when I was trying to shift to another course shift because of the official website and FB page (changed my life, no joke!). I think mas na-appreciate ko po yung mga initiatives after seeing why they were implemented and kind of a glimpse as to what the department was like before. I do think these solutions are steps in the right direction because despite being quite simple on the surface, I feel the impact they have even if I'm just a student.”
By optimizing administrative processes through dedicated portals, establishing a connected multi-channel presence on social media, and partnering with student organizations like the UP Circle of Home Economists, Project HOME delivered significant operational efficiency with zero budget. The initiative contributed to DHEEd’s steady iAADS score progression—rising from 39.60 in 2015 to 82.26 in 2024—solidifying its standing as a top-performing unit while demonstrating a scalable, sustainable model for quality assurance across the university.
Through Project HOME, DHEEd continues to empower its community towards sustained academic and institutional excellence.
