Associate Professor Chua holds a PhD in Education, major in Research and Evaluation, from the University of the Philippines Diliman. Before this, she took up two Master’s degree programs, namely the Masters of Business and Commerce (with Distinction) from the University of Western Sydney and the Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from the University of the Philippines Diliman. She also graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Bachelor of Science in Home Economics program in UP Diliman.
Her teaching expertise includes Research Methods, Evaluation in Home Economics Education, Household Resource Management, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Education, Seminar in Home Economics, and Management of Learning Environment. Her research mostly focuses on family wellbeing, Home Economics education, and classroom management, to name a few. A list of her research publications may be viewed at the end of this article.
Aside from serving as a faculty member, Dr. Chua is also presently the Academic Assessment and Development Officer of the department. She is also an alternate member of the Research Ethics Committee of the College of Home Economics. She had previously served as the Department Chairman from 2018 to 2022 and Graduate Coordinator of the department from 2014 to 2018. Before she taught in the university, she also taught as a preschool teacher from 1999 to 2001.
In the 22nd International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies (ISQOLS) Annual Conference held last June 2024, Assoc. Prof. Chua won first place for the Best Poster Award for their paper entitled “Financial Well-being of Filipino Families during the COVID-19 Pandemic.” She is a One UP Professorial Chair for Teaching and Public Service awardee from 2022 to 2024. In 2019, 2022, and 2023, she was also awarded the UP Centennial Faculty Grant.
Currently, Dr. Chua is a member of several professional organizations. These include the Philippine Association for Technology in Home Economics of State Colleges and Universities (PATHESCU), Asian Regional Association of Home Economics (ARAHE), International Federation of Home Economics, where she serves as a Certification Committee Member, and International Society for Quality of Life Studies (ISQOLS). She also currently serves as an Editorial Board member for the PATHESCU Journal.
