The Department of Home Economics Education proudly congratulates Asst. Prof. Aurora S. Llige for receiving the Ph.D. Incentive Award. This significant recognition grants Asst. Prof. Llige with the resources to develop a rich and comprehensive research portfolio focused on the area of Migration and Development, particularly the Filipino Diaspora Engagement.
Asst. Prof. Llige completed her PhD at Ewha Womans University in South Korea and received the “Best Thesis Award” for her dissertation entitled, “Filipino Diaspora Engagement: Analyzing the Approach of the Government in Migration and Development.” These achievements motivated her to extend, deepen, and share her work in the hope of contributing to a better understanding of the migration and development landscape in the Philippines.
The award was granted by the University of the Philippines Diliman’s Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development. It aims to support Faculty Members and Research, Extension, and Professional Staff (REPS) of UP Diliman who recently obtained a Ph.D. or an equivalent to establish their research or creative work in UP Diliman. The award also aims to serve as an incentive to publish their works in reputable and refereed journals or exhibit their creations in prestigious exhibitions that will strengthen their chances of obtaining future grants for further research or creative work.
Asst. Prof. Llige plans to kick-start her journey of building her research portfolio by extending her dissertation with a research project entitled, “Filipino Diaspora Engagement: Analyzing Media Representations and Development Narratives.” With the help of this grant, this step is only the first in Asst. Prof. Llige's goal of establishing a track-record of migration and development-related research that touches the many facets of Filipino family life.
