The Department of Home Economics Education (DHEEd) at the UP College of Home Economics has been nominated for the Gawad SWF 2026 Natatanging Proyekto sa Filipino by the Sentro ng Wikang Filipino–UPD (SWF-UPD). The nomination recognizes the department's project, Pagsasalin ng Filipino Family Wellbeing Survey sa Wikang Filipino, led by Prof. Consuelo T. Chua, with co-authors Prof. Joanne R. Bantang, Assoc. Prof. Aurora S. Llige, and Asst. Prof. Mary Justine Clarise A. Trinidad. The project translated the original 50-item English Family Wellbeing Survey (FFWS) into Filipino, creating the Sarbey ng Maginhawang Pamumuhay ng Pamilyang Pilipino (SMPPP). This initiative addresses the lack of contextualized, culturally rooted instruments to measure the well-being of Filipino families.

Translating the survey into Filipino provides a clear and accessible instrument across all socioeconomic and educational backgrounds, leading to higher data integrity. Executed through a rigorous process of forward translation, back translation, expert review, and pilot testing, 48 out of 50 items achieved a high Content Validation Index of 0.83 or above. The project also contributes to the intellectualization of the national language by establishing technical terminology in psychometric research (e.g., translating "Resource Adequacy" to "Sapat na Pinagkukunan ng Pangangailangan").

The long-term goals of the project focus on institutionalizing the SMPPP as a national standard metric for government policy and development programs, such as those led by the DSWD. To ensure inclusivity, the team plans to translate the survey into regional languages like Ilocano and Bisaya while continuously refining its technical integrity. Furthermore, the initiative seeks to integrate its data and terminology into academic curricula, publish research methodology in a technical journal, and launch a website featuring the FFWS and SMPPP Toolkit for public use.  Overall, the objective is to sustain and expand the use of the survey as a culturally relevant, language-based metric for assessing and promoting family wellbeing across the Philippines. 

Through this nomination, the Department of Home Economics Education celebrates the Filipino language as a vital tool in promoting truth and understanding in a time of disinformation. The Department believes that recognizing such initiatives will inspire continued efforts in elevating Filipino within academia, government, and society at large.
