The Department of Home Economics Education served as a beacon of light as they spearheaded the creation of the College of Home Economics’ lantern, Ani ng Bayan, in the 2024 UP Lantern Parade.
Whilst the CHE lantern shone brightly as it was showcased around the UP Academic Oval, captivating the crowd, it also reflected the shining dedication and hard work of the committee led by the department. The values that Home Economics long stood for were manifested in the unique and creative elements incorporated into the design of the lantern, tangibly symbolizing the heart and soul of not only the Department but the whole College.
The design was carefully thought out to include the themes of “Nilay at Sikhay” and messages of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. It was all carefully crafted to be in honor of the heritage of rice farming—a practice fully ingrained in our identity as Filipinos.
The lantern was a spectacle of light and coupled with the department’s presence, the camaraderie was a remarkable way to kickstart the holiday celebrations, serving also as a reminder of the values of Home Economics and how it is ineradicable in our Filipino identity.
