The Department of Home Economics Education would like to extend its heartfelt congratulations to Calix Ho on his outstanding achievement at the Mandaleño Fencing Cup held last September 7, 2025, at SM Center Shaw.

Calix, a freshman under the BS Home Economics program, shared that despite having only a limited amount of time to prepare, he maximized his efforts by doing extra training and focusing on strengthening his discipline and mental toughness. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, reminding himself to stay calm and confident as he entered the competition. His dedication and perseverance paid off when he won the gold medal, a moment he describes as a truly big achievement—feeling proud not only for himself but also for the support of his friends, family, coach, and most of all, his faith in God.

He offers valuable advice to fellow students and athletes: stay consistent and never give up, whether in studies or sports. Calix encourages everyone to remember that every effort, win or lose, adds up to big results. He also emphasizes the importance of surrounding oneself with supportive people and trusting in God no matter what challenges come along.

Balancing responsibilities as a freshman is no easy feat, but Calix is still learning and working on it. He shares that setting priorities, managing schedules, and making time for both school and fencing are key strategies in his journey.
