The field of Home Economics is vast, and journeying through the sea of many opportunities may seem overwhelming for Home Economics students just starting out. Thankfully, they are not alone!
The Department of Home Economics Education, together with the Circle of Home Economists held a Home Economics Career Talk with the theme “Sailing across the sea of opportunities” last November 9, 2024 at CHE Gusali 2B. DHEEd Chairperson Asst. Prof. Mary Justine Clarise Trinidad welcomed the participants at the beginning of the ceremony. This was followed by a short ice breaker led by Jaime O. Gumabao, Home Economics representative.
In the Career Talk, attendees were able to explore the different career paths they can enter as Home Economics graduates, namely education, entrepreneurship, the corporate sector, law, and other various fields. Each sector was represented by HE graduates who found success in them.
Dr. Joana Marcelo-Diñoso, Dean of the School of Management and Information Technology, De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde, shared her experiences as an HE graduate in the field of education. Afterwards, participants were given a glimpse of Home Economics in the field of entrepreneurship thanks to Mr. Kim Virgil M. Apura, co-owner of Kai Aesthetics Beauty Studio. Speaking for the corporate sector was Mr. Emmanuel Joseph R. Trinidad, Senior Analyst of Controls and Governance (Finance department), Manulife Financial Corporation. Even the field of law is a possibility for HE graduates, as Atty. Michael R. Santos, Division Chief of the National Privacy Commission’s Complaints and Investigation Division proves. Finally, the Department of Home Economics Education’s very own faculty, Asst. Prof. Afrecita D. Nieva, presented the opportunities for Home Economics graduates in the other various fields. After each speaker gave their talks, the 44 students, faculty, and staff who attended were given the opportunity to ask the guest speakers any questions to better understand the possibilities they can explore.
After the fruitful talks by the guest speakers, the program ended with some closing remarks from Ms. Alexa Karmel E. Metrio, adviser of the UP Circle of Home Economists.
