The Saliksikhay: Diliman Research, Innovation, Development, and Extension (RIDE) Festival 2025 showcased the vibrant research and creative works of the UP Diliman community from November 11 to 21. This event serves as a vital platform for the dissemination of groundbreaking research and creative works from the university community and beyond.
Among the notable participants was Dr. Maria Fema S. Aquino, a dedicated member of the Department of Home Economics Education. During the event, Dr. Aquino actively participated in the Roving Exhibit, with her work titled "Usapang Pantahanan as a Learning Tool Among Women Survivors of Sex Trafficking in Quezon City”. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Usapang Pantahanan YouTube Channel, a platform used by She Works, Inc., a non-governmental organization supporting women survivors of sex trafficking. The channel provides informal educational videos aimed at strengthening individuals and families. The research focused on assessing the recommended videos based on their content, relevance, and applicability to the participants' personal and family lives, as well as exploring the influence of these videos on the participants.
Twenty-five participants were selected intentionally, and over six weeks, they engaged with eleven videos related to health and nutrition—covering topics like waste management, cooking, and family care—during a program at Made in Hope, SheWorks, Inc., Fairview, Quezon City. The findings indicate that the videos serve as valuable tools that positively impact women’s personal and family lives. It also highlights the potential of social media as an effective platform for education among marginalized groups. Based on these results, She Works, Inc. recommends continuing and expanding the use of these videos, exploring broader topics, and collaborating with experts to enhance impact and credibility.
Dr. Aquino expressed her gratitude to her collaborators and appreciation of the opportunity to be part of this meaningful event. Her participation highlights the department's dedication to advancing research that makes a positive difference in society.
