The Department of Clinical, Social, and Administrative Pharmacy (DCSAP) at the University of the Philippines Manila conducted the insightful Faculty Innovation Workshop: Integrating Technology and AI in Curriculum Design last December 10-11, 2025 at Privato Makati Hotel with Dr. Aurora Llige from the Department of Home Economics Education of University of the Philippines Diliman as one of the resource speakers, whose expertise helped enhance the capacity of DCSAP faculty members and teaching assistants in integrating educational technology and artificial intelligence (AI) into the existing curricula and course designs, and in preparation for the implementation of new curricular program offerings.
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in various activities designed to deepen their understanding and practical skills. Some key activities included listing the different ways students and teachers currently use AI to raise awareness of AI’s diverse applications in academic settings. Participants also shared personal stories about their AI use, discussing the challenges they faced and the lessons they learned, fostering a collaborative environment for peer learning. Central to the session was the introduction of the C.R.A.F.T. framework—emphasizing Culture, Rules, Access, Familiarity, and Trust—to guide the ethical and inclusive implementation of AI. Participants reflected on their current practices, assessing their department’s culture around AI, existing rules, resource accessibility, and the level of familiarity and trust among peers and students.
Further activities included conducting a cost-benefit analysis of AI integration, in which participants evaluated how AI could support teaching and learning and identified potential risks and challenges. The workshop culminated in planning exercises to redevelop departmental and course-specific guidelines on AI use, emphasizing dissemination, training, orientation, implementation, and evaluation. These strategic discussions are vital steps toward creating an ethical, inclusive, and responsible approach that aligns with institutional values and global standards.
Dr. Llige expresses her gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with UP Manila’s DCSAP. She views this engagement as a valuable opportunity to extend her reach beyond her immediate environment, learn from other UP departments, and understand their practices. She considers this activity a mutual learning experience and hopes that the participants benefited greatly from this collaboration.
Moving forward, the department remains open to more opportunities to collaborate and to share their knowledge and skills with other academic units, fostering a culture of continuous growth and innovation across the university and beyond.
